North Virginia things to do in the weekend – January 20 – January 22, 2012

The weekend weather forecast looks grim. However, you have enough events to look forward to warm you up. Here are some ideas if you are looking to venture out.

Friday, January 20

Date night: Spend a leisurely night at the acclaimed, romantic French restaurant in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. La Bergerie participates in the Alexandria Restaurant Week offering a three-course prix-fixe dinner menu for $35.

Saturday, January 21

Music: Indulge in a musical night featuring Tom Chaplin, the Grammy Award -winning American musician, entertainer, singer-songwriter and storyteller. The solo concert will feature some of Tom’s musical hits at the Wolf Trap Barn. 7.30pm. $22

Food & Drink: Beat the chill with a cup of simmering hot soup, and wine next to a fireplace at Loudon Valley Vineyards. Click here for the soup menu. 11am. $12/person for glass of wine and bowl of soup, $2 extra for reserve wines.

Kids friendly: If we dodge the snow, head your li’l ones to Reston Town Center, where they can indulge in a skating session with Scooby-Doo, Tweety Bird, Cat in the Hat and more. 11am to 1pm Adults – $9.00/Children under 12 – $7.00

Date Night: Enjoy a delightful evening at the Market Street Bar and participate in the sounds of local musicians as they perform live from 8:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. No cover charge.

Date Night/Cooking Class: Head over to Workhouse Arts Center that features Date Night: Chef’s Table every third Saturday of each month. Work along with your partner in this instructor-led class and prepare a delectable menu. Every month, a new dish is featured. 8-10pm $30 per person

Sunday, January 22

Family Friendly: Transport to a old-world storytelling at Bow-tie Cinemas, that features the classic “My Fair Lady” (1964) starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. $5. 11am

Date night: Visit Clyde’s of Tysons Corner for a casual wine night where most bottles of wine are value-priced. This is a perfect time to try something new, or indulge in your favorites. 4-9pm

Date Idea: Civil War Dance Classes

Prepare for the Civil War Ball on the January 28, learn the waltz, polka, Virginia reel and more from an expert dance master at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum. 7.30 PM – 9.30PM. $12

Friday, January 13

Music: Jazz at Cafe Montmartre

The quaint French bistro presents Brazilian Vocalist – GiGi MacLaughlan performing live from 8:30pm until 11:30pm. This will kick off Cafe Montmartre’s Jazz Concert series, featuring “Live” Jazz every Friday evening from 8:30pm until 11:30pm. No Cover Charge. Tickets $0

Foodies: Old Town Alexandria Food Tour

Participate in DC Metro Food guided tour and learn all about Old Town Alexandria’s culinary history. During the tour, indulge in samplings from popular family-owned restaurants. 1PM – 4:30PM. $60.

Date Idea: Off The Cuff Comedy Show

Join local comedians Steve Heaton, David Sly, and CeCi Stephens, OTC in an evening of comedy and fun in Off The Cuff Comedy Show at the Tally Ho Theatre in Leesburg, Va. The evening caters to young adults and college students. 8:00 pm–9:30 pm, $10

Family friendly: Fabulous Foxes
