D.C. Cherry blossomEarth Day 2013 is all about climate change.  Perhaps a minor problem to several, “it’s already impacting real people, animals and beloved places.” Learn more about it and be a part of the change by participating in one of the many events planned in Washington, D.C. and its neighboring areas.

Union Station

D.C.’s Union Station has dedicated the month of April to the environmentally conscious. Throughout the month, various activities are planned — you can explore alternative energy options, along with fun science fair, an art contest, a green fashion show, a farmers market, NASA demonstrations, and a film festival, among others. Most events are free.

National Mall

Scheduled for April 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., a rain-or-shine event on the National Mall will feature interactive exhibits, renewable energy demonstrations, musical performances, and prominent speakers. This year, celebrity performances include Ron Holloway, The Chad Hollister Band, and seven-time Grammy-nominated R&B artist Ledisi.

National Zoo

The National Zoo has a free, family-friendly Earth Day celebration planned on April 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids will be able to create biodegradable plant pots made out of recycled newspaper and participate in giveaways.
